BOOK DISCUSSION IN ROCKVILLE
This Sunday we will discuss the book “In the Garden of the Beast” by Erik Larson. Larson recounts the career of the American Ambassador to Germany, William Dodd, during the years 1933 to 1937 when he and his family, including his daughter Martha, lived in Berlin. Within months of their arrival, the family became aware of the evils of Nazi rule. Dodd periodically protested against it. President Roosevelt was pleased with his performance while most State Department officials, suspicious of his lack of background in diplomacy, as well as his inability to finance embassy activities from his own wealth, found him undiplomatic and idiosyncratic.
Books and Fellowship is a Jewish (yet all interested persons are welcome, regardless of religious affiliation) singles group 45+ which meets on Sundays. Twice monthly, we have lively discussions about books, movies, and/or topics. Afterwards, we go out to lunch at a nearby restaurant.
