Since 1993, the Environmental Film Festival in the Nation’s Capital has sought to advance public understanding of the environment through the power of film. The Embassy of the Republic of Singapore is a proud sponsor of the festival and will be screening a two-part film series, Wild City – ‘Urban Wild’ and ‘Islands’, which showcases the diverse wildlife in Singapore amidst the island nation’s urban environment. Wild City – Islands was the winner of the best documentary at the 2016 Asian Television Awards.

Wild – Urban Wild explores the diverse urban wilderness that coexists with the people of Singapore within the sprawling concrete jungle. This portion of the series features the Marina Bay otters and a troop of macaque monkeys living in Bukit Timah. The film offers an eye-opening look into hidden wildlife hotspots and the fascinating animals that are nestled right next door to city residents in bustling downtown and residential estate areas.

Winner of the 2016 Asian Television Awards best documentary program, Wild – Islands showcases often inaccessible coasts that are home to an array of rare marine animals within Singapore’s unplanned natural sanctuaries. The documentary looks at intriguing creatures such as the tiger tail seahorse, the dog-faced water snake, and the exceptionally rare Neptune’s Cup Sponge. By the end of the show, viewers will have a greater appreciation for the amazing sea life residing just beneath the surface.
