Magen David Sephardic Congregation
Professor Hanno Balz joins us from Johns Hopkins
University to examine how the persecution of
German Jews escalated between 1933 and 1943.
As a German historian, Professor Balz has
researched the “Aryanization” of Jewish houses
and business properties during this timeframe, as
well as how non-Jewish neighbors and Nazi party
officials benefitted from this large-scale robbery.
During his lecture, he will also discuss the
challenges of selective memory on this topic in
Germany today, and examine the backlash
emanating from the re-emerging populist right.
